Manley Foundation to host open day

Published: Tuesday | March 3, 2009

The Michael Manley Foundation will host an open day at its headquarters, 1A Hope Boulevard, Kingston 6, on March 6, in commemoration of the 12th anniversary of Michael Manley's passing.

Foundation Chairman Delano Franklyn noted that the relevance of Manley's philosophy was arguably greater today than it was in his lifetime. He cited the current global economic recession and the need for self-reliance and community cooperation as survival strategies to cope with the impact of the recession.

The open-day programme will include a graphic display under the theme 'Ten Aspects of Michael Manley' and the screening of video products. Merchandise will also be on sale, including three books on Michael Manley; a DVD recording of an interview with Manley by Donette Chin Loy and shirts emblazoned with a silhouette of Manley's profile.

Political achievements

The 10 aspects of Manley to be highlighted in the display will be his early life, ideas and causes, trade union involvement, writings, political achievements and love for sports and the arts.

The programme starts at 10 a.m.
