Pistol disappears after school shooting

They spent more than 90 minutes yesterday morning combing the crevices and corners of the Holy Rosary Primary School, east Kingston, in search of a semi-automatic pistol from which an 11-year-old boy discharged a round after taking the weapon to school.

In the end, all the police found was a spent shell. The gun was gone and the lawmen are now on the trail of the weapon they believe came from a nearby inner-city community.

While persons at the school declined to comment on the incident yesterday, The Gleaner understands that the police were summoned after a crowd turned up at the school yesterday morning and, at one point, began moving menacingly towards staff members.

The Gleaner contacted the school repeatedly and was told that the principal was unavailable. A staff member declined to comment on the shooting. However, according to a police source who spoke with The Gleaner yesterday, some of the teachers appeared to be shaken up by the incident.

At least four students, accompanied by their parents, were taken to the Elletson Road Police Station, where they were asked to give individual statements in relation to what took place at the school on Wednesday.
