Principals told to walk the talk

Dr Walton Small, principal of Wolmer's Boys' School, has urged administrators to motivate teachers and lead by example.

"Therefore you can't come to school at noon and expect your teachers to be there at 7 a.m.," he told 30 new principals and vice-principals from upgraded high schools at Shirley's Retreat House, St Andrew, Wednesday.

Small said low morale at some schools could be attributed to administrative performance. "We must not be satisfied with mediocrity. Don't complain about the resources, let us find some way out," he said.

New tune for band

The 70-member Portmore Raiders Marching Band has drummed up support to the tune of $725,000, courtesy of the CHASE Fund.

The two-year-old band, which has been experiencing financial difficulty, received drums, cymbals, trumpets and other equipment. The handover took place at the Pentecostal City Mission Church Inc in Southborough, Portmore, on Sunday.

''We will be using the band to change lives and Portmore and, by extension, Jamaica stands to benefit from what we do,'' said Clive Ward, band director.
