GEORGETOWN, Guyana (CMC):

Acting Guyana Cricket Board president Fizul Bacchus has called on the National Under-19 squad to make a clean sweep of the TCL West Indies youth tournament which bowls off in Jamaica today.

Speaking at a farewell dinner for the squad, Bacchus urged the team to continue their dominance in the three-day Challenge while trying to capture the one-day title.

Be good ambassadors

"You have the potential to make Guyanese proud by lifting both trophies and you must always be good ambassadors when you touch [down] in Jamaica," Bacchus said.

"It will be hard work, dedication and commitment, but I am confident you will do it."

Bacchus, one of the two GCB vice-presidents, was substituting for current president Chetram Singh, who was unavailable.

Also present at the reception was Director of Sport Neil Kumar, who was standing in for Sports Minister Dr Frank Anthony, who was also absent.

Guyana relinquished the three-day trophy last year to hosts Barbados but have never won the one-day title since its inception in 1997.

Team manager Alvin Johnson promised the gathering that his team would be coming back with both trophies.
