Pressure mounts on health sector

THE OPPOSITION People's National Party (PNP) wants Rudyard Spencer, health minister, to order an investigation into the death of a child at the Linstead Hospital.
The child reportedly died a day after he had been discharged from the hospital.
Opposition Spokesman on Health, Dr Fenton Ferguson, said he was deeply concerned and disturbed at the circumstances that led to the death of the child. "I am calling on the minister to commence an immediate investigation," Dr Ferguson said.
The Opposition said that the child's death came against the background of a number of challenges in the island's heath-care system.
The health ministry will, next week, divulge the findings of an internal investigation into the disappearance of the body of an infant from the morgue at the Mandeville Hospital in February.
