He has been under the microscope of United States law-enforcement agents since the late 1990s. Finally, the paperwork has been completed and a request has been made for the extradition of one of Jamaica's most influential community leaders and businessmen.

Informed sources said the document is now waiting to be signed and then the leader, who is like a godfather to his community, will be arrested and extradited.

While it is still unclear what he will be charged with, there are allegations of drug implications. The Gleaner understands that he is among several persons who are expected to be arrested and extradited.

For several years, the police have been investigating footballers, political activists and a number of so-called businessmen in connection with drug running between Jamaica and the United States.

In 2004, a major operation between law-enforcement agents of the United Kingdom, Jamaica and the United States resulted in the arrest of persons the police said were some key players in the illicit drug trade.

Among those arrested were businessman Norris 'Deedo' Nembhard, former police corporal Herbert Henry, Robroy 'Spy' Williams, Glenroy Williams, Vivian Dalley and Colombian Miguel Arias.

Nembhard and Henry were convicted shortly after they were extradited to the US.
