Excelsior humbles Calabar

Excelsior, in a dominant display, spanked Calabar 5-0 in their Group C Pepsi/Digicel Manning Cup clash at Red Hills Road yesterday.
In the one-sided affair, Excelsior, who controlled the game from as early as the first minute when Jhovannie Howard headed home from a corner, qualified for the Walker Cup by topping the group. They moved to 29 points from 11 matches, while Calabar, who had already secured a place in the second round of the Manning Cup, remained on 25 points.
Jovanne Benjamin (6th), Damani Stewart (27th), Shain Ferron from the penalty spot in the 61st minute and substitute Nico Brett (81st) were the scorers for the winners who now await Group F winners - St George's or Eltham - in the Walker Cup on Saturday.
Many Calabar fans left the venue disappointed. A few were overheard grumbling that they just could not believe they had lost so badly at home. The Red Hills Road-based school had five of their nine shots on target, one a penalty in the 70th minute, which Excelsior's goalkeeper Odaine Hartley saved from the boot of Kavaise Bloomfield. In another match, Spanish Town beat Campion 4-0 while Tarrant and Trench Town ended 1-1.
In Group F where an interesting battle for top honours is developing, St George's defeated Charlie Smith 4-0 to move a point ahead of Eltham, who travelled to Kingston Technical but there was no sign of the home team. Both schools have two matches in hand.
Kingston College (KC) booked their second round spot from Group B, thrashing Jose Marti 9-0 at Clovelley Park. KC, with the win, moved to within five points of Norman Manley (27). Ardenne, who started the round with a slim chance of advancing, dropped points away to Innswood in a 0-0 draw.
