Ian Lyn, general manager of New Line Motors, was on Thursday elected president of the Jamaica Used Car Dealers Association (JUCDA).

The election - which took place at the organisation's annual general meeting held at The Jamaica Pegasus, New Kingston in St Andrew - saw seven-time president Ken Shaw declining re-election thus paving the way for Lyn.

Shaw endorsed Lyn stating he had a presence in the industry and a unique knowledge of the group's situation.

In a previous interview, the former president said that during his tenure the used car group had achieved a lot.

Shaw said that he had seen the overhaul of the customs system, changes in the valuation system and in the duty regime for motor vehicles.

Last month, the JUCDA along with the Automobile Dealers Association secured a tax reduction in the special consumption tax from government. The tax break, which was for the period September to the end of March 2010, saw duties on imported vehicles being slashed by 20 percentage points.

The rest of JUCDA's executive body comprises vice president Errol Brown; secretary/treasurer, Charmaine Lee; and directors Errol Rose, Dwight Moore, Garnett Reid and Gordon Baldy.
