Former champions Tivoli Gardens and Majesty Gardens will meet in Game One of the best-of-three National Basketball (NBL)/Flow Southern Conference finals tonight at National Stadium Courts starting at 7.
Both teams secured their spot in the final following contrasting wins over St Georges Slayers and Urban Knights in their respective Game Two aggregate-based semi-finals on Tuesday.
In the opening game, the Wizards defeated St Georges Slayers 79-73 for a 2-0 series win. Anthony Farquarson led for the Wizards with a game-high 27 points. Rohan Robinson (20 points) and Michael Jackson (20 points) were the leading scorers for the Slayers.
Despite the Knights' 57-56 defeat of Majesty Gardens they failed to advanced due to their 73-66 defeat in the opening match, meaning they needed to win Tuesday's game by at least eight clear points to go through.
Leading scorers
Andy Smith (20 points) and Javon Bailey (14 points) were the topscorers for the Knights. Kemar McLeish (18 points) and Baldon Todd (14 points) were leading scorers for Majesty.
Marland Nattie, coach of Majesty, said he is expecting a tough encounter from his opponents.
"It is going to be a very exciting game because they are a good team all-round team," said Nattie, who is a former president of the NBL. We just have to go out and play 40-minutes of basketball and haven't done this the whole season and so it is going to be a tall task for us," Nattie said.
Edward 'Ted' Marshall, coach of the Wizards, who defeated Majesty earlier in the season, said he is very confident of victory.
"We know how they play and I believe that once we shut down their two main scores, then we should win," said Marshall.
