He has been identified as 36-year-old Constable Steve Brown, who served in the Mobile Reserve.
Superintendent Dathan Henry, head of the Clarendon police division, told The Gleaner that shortly after 11 a.m. Brown and Emmanuel Wallace had just left the May Pen Gun Court where Wallace appeared to answer charges of illegal possession of a firearm and assault at common law.
Brown had transported Wallace to Clarendon and they were driving back to Kingston and stopped on the Hunts Pen main road along the Bustamante Highway. They were approached by three men who got out of a car.
The men opened fire, hitting Brown and Wallace. Brown, who was off duty, died at hospital. Henry said his Glock pistol was taken by the gunmen.
Wallace was also struck and was undergoing surgery yesterday evening.

Head of the Mobile Reserve, Assistant Commissioner of Police Clifford Blake, said Brown had ended his shift hours before the shooting. Brown had been a member of the Mobile Reserve since joining the JCF three and a half years ago.
He is the second police casualty in one month. On the evening of October 22, Constable Delroy Brown was killed while visiting a friend in the community of Seaview Gardens in Kingston.
