A feast 'pon de riva'

When the folks at the National Commercial Bank (NCB) throw a party, guests can expect a feast. Sunday December 6, under the theme, 'Simple Pleasures and Native Treasures', the emphasis was on enjoying the things we hold dear about Jamaica. The spread was intended to be the mother of all Sunday dinners, with a menu that included everything Jamaicans love to eat at Christmas time.

Snacks

Ice-cold jelly coconuts, sugar cane and fresh seasonal market fruits on entry; snow cones in every flavour - with or without rum; salt fish and crackers; steamed shrimp in Red Stripe Beer; boiled corn; roasted salt fish served with roasted yellow yam and butter; and Ochi-style pepper shrimps, packaged.

Lunch from the Melting Pot

Soups

Mannish water, janga soup and chicken foot.

Jerk Station

Assorted jerk meats: chicken, pork; barbecue chicken; hard dough bread.

Accompaniments

Gungo peas and rice, pumpkin rice, baked macaroni and cheese, sweet potato salad, candied sweet potatoes and honey baked ham with sorrel chutney.

Curry Station

Assorted curry dishes including: goat meat, vegetables, curried seafood medley; fried plantains; roti and coconut rice or plain rice; condiments; country peppers and more.

Hellshire Station

Fish/seafood station courtesy of Hellshire Beach Seafood Restaurant, lobster, fried fish, steamed fish, festival and bammy and fish tea.

Oyster Bar

There were oysters, mussels and conch wraps galore.

Salad Bar

Caesar/pasta salad, marinated tomatoes and cucumbers with vinaigrette dressing and garden salad.

Assorted Sweets & Desserts

Plantain tarts, holiday fruit cake, coconut drops and grater cake, cornmeal pudding, sweet potato pudding, blue drawers, banana bread, bread pudding with rum sauce and jackass corn.

NCB Insurance Company gave guests tamarind balls, busta and paradise plum candy 'for the road'.
