THE MEDICAL Association of Jamaica (MAJ) has expressed deep regret at the killing of Don Hibbert, a medical doctor who lived and worked in Westmoreland.

"Dr Hibbert made a significant contribution to public health care in his community. We extend deepest sympathies to his family, friends and patients during this difficult time of grief," the association said in a statement on Wednesday.

Dr Hibbert's body was found shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday at his home in Big Bridge.

A post-mortem revealed that the doctor was shot in the head and in his back.

Motive was robbery

The Savanna-la-Mar police believe robbery was the motive and are asking anyone who has any information regarding this killing to contact them.

Dr Hibbert's colleagues from the Western Regional Health Autho-rity, who visited the crime scene, offered condolences to the family.

Meanwhile, the MAJ said it was deeply concerned about the increasing number of violent crimes being committed against its members and families.

"While we strive to provide quality health care for all Jamaica, we urge the Government of this country to do all that is necessary to ensure that we have a safe Jamaica for hard-working citizens to live and work in," the association said.
