Seba United could take over sole leadership of the 2009-10 Captain's Bakery & Grill/Western Super League football competition this afternoon when they take on Bamboo FC in a rescheduled game at Jarrett Park in Montego Bay, starting at 5 p.m.
In another rescheduled game slated for this afternoon at the Bounty Hall Community Centre in Trelawny, home team Exidus will take on Montpelier FC. That game is slated for a 3 p.m. start.
The unbeaten Seba United, with six wins and two draws from their eight outings to date, joined Reno FC atop the competition's standings on 20 points each when they scored a big come-from- behind 4-1 win over Frome FC at the Frome Sports Ground in Westmoreland on Sunday.
Frome FC took a 10th-minute lead in the game but the Theodore Whitmore-coached Seba United stormed back to secure their impressive margin of victory through goals by Kemar James (two), Wilfred Smith and Fabian McCarthy.
"It was yet another impressive performance by the team and we are happy to be back at the top," said Kareen Kelly, administrator of the Seba United team.
"We will be aiming to take over sole leadership in our rescheduled game against Bamboo FC," she added.
A dismal season
In the second of the two games that were played on Sunday, former national champions Wadadah, who are having a dismal season, suffered their eighth defeat in nine starts when they were soundly beaten 3-1 by Montpelier FC in Hanover.
While the defeat has left Wadadah 11th in the 12-team competition on three points, Montepelier are now in sixth place on nine points and could move further up the tables with a win against Exidus today.
The main prizes include a $150,000 winners purse, The Captain's Bakery & Grill trophy and a place in the 2010-11 Digicel Premier League elimination tournament.
The points tally reads: Seba 20, Reno 20, Frome FC 18, Granville FC 15, Bamboo FC 14, Catherine Hall 12, Montpelier 9, Violet Kickers 8, Exidus 6, Petersfield FC 4, Wadadah FC 3 and Prosper FC 2.
In addition to topping the competition's points standings, Reno and Seba are jointly the competition's most prolific teams with 15 goals each. Reno have conceded two goals, while Seba have given up three.
