More guns seized by police

THREE MORE illegal firearms are off the nation's streets following a police operation in Golden Spring, St Andrew, yesterday.

The weapons, a Beretta shotgun, a Smith and Wesson 9mm and an Intra-Tech submachine, were found on premises on Lane Pass in Golden Spring early Friday morning during an operation by police from the Mobile Reserve.

Three magazines with 9mm ammunition, one stick of dynamite and a ski mask were also seized by the cops.

Two men were taken into custody in connection with the seizures. They had not been charged up to late yesterday.

Data released by the police information arm, the Constabulary Communication Network, show 33 illegal firearms seized by the cops since the start of this year.

This includes 12 firearms seized on one occasion at Port Busta-mante in Kingston.

Last year, the police seized 569 illegal weapons, down from 613 in 2008, and 653 in 2007.
