Gleaner website is cutting edge

Published: Tuesday | February 16, 2010 Comments 0

At 2:30 yesterday afternoon, followers of the Jamaica Gleaner on the micro blogging website, Twitter, got a particularly important update about another chapter in the life of the storied newspaper.

It read: To our Twitter followers, we are pleased to announce the launch of the revamped Jamaica Gleaner website. http://jamaica-gleaner.com .

When those followers logged on, they were greeted by a refreshed website laid against the trademark colours, white and blue. It was also much more attractive, user-friendly and easier to navigate.

The redesign offers a purer and cleaner experience for the content offered by the 176-year-old newspaper. The website also sees The Gleaner 's commitment to multimedia in an age where the major newspapers in the world utilise several methods, such as videos, sound slides and podcasts, for storytelling.

The makeover is also part ofthe company's move to better meet users' and advertisers' needs by providing lots of value-added content and advertising opportunities.

Users can now feast on Gleaner blogs and more precise subsections which make it easier to find the content of greatest interest, including puzzles and games, as well as interactive platforms for readers to submit pictures, videos and information about news in their communities.
