Grenada's Roberts scores in handsome win for Blackburn

Published: Monday | February 22, 2010 Comments 0

BLACKBURN, England (CMC):

The Grenada international Jason Roberts got on the scoresheet yesterday for Blackburn Rovers, who hit three unanswered goals past Bolton Wanderers in their English Premier League match at Ewood Park.

Substitutes Roberts and Givet netted second-half goals after Nikola Kalinic had given Rovers a 1-0 lead just before the break and Blackburn romped to their biggest win of the season in front of 23,888 fans at their home stadium.

It was the fourth consecutive home win for Blackburn while struggling Bolton, who had Jamaica international Ricardo Gardner in their line-up, have now gone five games without a goal.

"Our away form hasn't been great, we need to improve that, but if we can keep picking up points at home we'll be okay," Roberts told reporters.

Kalinic opened the scoring in the 41st minute and Roberts made it 2-0 in the 73rd minute.

Bolton failed to convincingly clear the ball from a corner and Givet was able to steer the ball back into the box for Roberts to convert with a header.

Finishing touch

Givet hooked it back into the penalty area and Roberts applied the finishing touch.

Blackburn closed their scoring show in the 84th minute when Givet connected on El-Hadji Diouf's cross with a glancing header that beat Jussi Jaaskelainen in Bolton's goal.

Blackburn are 12th in the premiership standings with 34 points and Bolton remain in the relegation zone in 18th place on 23 points.
