Cai brothers propel Wolmer's to victory
Wolmer's extended their lead atop the standings in Group Two of the ISSA urban area Under-19 table tennis competition, after recording a 4-1 win over former many-time champions Kingston College (KC) at Wolmer's on Thursday.
Buoyed by victories from Michael Cai, Milo Cai, Kareem Flowers and Johnathan Higgins, Wolmer's lead the standings with maximum 12 points from six wins, four ahead of KC and seven more than third-place Ardenne. Cumberland round off the standings with five points.
Michael Cai, the older of the two brothers, outplayed Twani Price 3-0, Milo got the better of Everold McLeod 3-1, Kareem Flowers stopped Jason Grant 3-0, and Johnathan Higgins cruised past Shakier Locke 3-0.
KC's lone victory came from Jermaine James, who overpowered Zwadie Genus 3-0.
Wolmer's and Ardenne have completed their fixtures, while KC and Cumberland have one match remaining against each other. The top two finishers will qualify for semi-finals.
Meanwhile, in Under-16 action, reigning national champions KC continue to lead Group Two after scoring a 5-0 win over Wolmer's at Wolmer's.
St George's scored an away 5-0 victory over Meadowbrook in the day's other Under-16 encounter.
KC lead the group with 14 points, Wolmer's have eight, Ardenne six, St George's four and Meadowbrook three. The top three finishers will progress to semi-finals.
