Leewards thrash CCC

GROS-ISLET, St Lucia (CMC):

Lionel Baker helped Leeward Islands finish the season with a flourish, when he bowled them to a 10-wicket victory over the Combined Campuses & Colleges (CCC) in the WICB regional first-class championship yesterday.

Baker ended with five wickets for 52 runs from 16 overs, as CCC were dismissed for 200 in their second innings about an hour before lunch on the third day of their seventh and final round match at the Beausejour Cricket Ground.

Baker ended with match figures of 13 for 83, after he wrecked CCC's first innings with eight for 31. He finished the season with 23 wickets at 15.08 apiece to be the second most successful bowler for Leewards, behind Omari Banks with 24.

Target reached

Set 39 for victory, Leewards reached, their target, without losing a wicket about 40 minutes before the interval, when Kieran Powell pulled Kevin McClean for the last of his seven boundaries in 32 not out.

The result meant that Leewards finish the season in third place on 34 points, but CCC will only know their final position when the outstanding fixture between Guyana and Windward Islands comes to a conclusion. However, the CCC ended the season with 24 points.

At the National Cricket Stadium, Grenada, Windward Islands, replying to Guyana's first innings total of 452, reached 371 for seven at the close of the third day of their seventh and final round match yesterday.

Scores: GUYANA 452 (Ramnaresh Sarwan 116, Assad Fudadin 78, Esuan Crandon 51 not out, Royston Crandon 36, Veerasammy Permaul 47, Sewnarine Chattergoon 27, Rajendra Chandrika 26; Rawl Lewis 4-71, Shane Shillingford 3-109, Nelon Pascal 2-106). WINDWARD ISLANDS 371-7 (Devon Smith 193, Rawl Lewis 56, Liam Sebastien 45; Assad Fudadin 2-20, Esaun Crandon 2-71).
