Mend broken relationships

Published:Wednesday | March 3, 2010 | 12:00 AM

The Editor,
Sir:

Jamaica needs to repair some of the damage done to its relationship with the United States.

Though a relatively good relation-ship overall, Jamaica's standing with the US is certainly not as good as it used to be back in the 1980s and during the decade of the 1960s. There are some things that happened in both the last and current governments that, had they not taken place, would have today made for a much better relationship with the world's number one superpower.

We're a sovereign nation, but sometimes we do and say things that go against what is in the best interest of Jamaica from an international standpoint. It's time for the Government to do what is necessary to, once again, make Jamaica the pearl of the Caribbean in the eyes of the US.

I am, etc.,
