GSB Credit Union launches online service
The GSB Credit Union has joined the ranks of several other local financial institutions to offer online banking with a goal of diversifying products.
The new service will enable members of the 64-year-old institution to access account balances and statements and transfer funds within the inner and outer banking system, debt payment, among others.
"The way of the future is in the virtual world, and if we cannot offer a system which takes us into this world, then we are going to lag way behind (the competition)," acting chief executive officer of the GSB Credit Union, Garfield Sang, said at the launch of the new service at a recent town hall meeting hosted by GSB in May Pen, Clarendon.
The credit union said the online banking facility will drastically reduce the need for members to call GSB, who on average receive between 1,500 and 1,700 calls daily.
Information and Technology Manager Maurice Coke has expressed satisfaction with the new service.
"The previous system could not facilitate telebanking enhancements, even though there was telebanking, and it could not facilitate online banking at all," he said.
