Well-planned function, but absurd award
The Editor, Sir:
It was very amazing the see how elaborate was the swearing-in ceremony for the new custos of Trelawny. This was the biggest local government event in the parish as far as I can remember. There was a well-designed stage and proper tents for the who's who in Trelawny and the House of Representatives. There was the Speaker of the House, minister of agriculture, minister of labour and welfare, other ministers, just to name a few. Distinguished guests, from all over the island, not to mention the platform party.
Muschette should have got OJ
Whoever planned the event went all out. A lot of money was spent. But now for the meat of the matter: after all that planning, to name Custos Paul Muschette a Commander of the Order of Distinction (CD) was absurd. They should have given him an Order of Jamaica (OJ) for all the work he has done in the parish over the years.
Awards of the Order of Jamaica are bestowed on other persons who have not contributed as much in building Jamaica, and not to do the same for a man who deserves it for his work is to me like a kick in the face of man of the moment and the invited guests.
