More than 85 of the island's top marksmen and women have been entered in today's staging of the NCB Capital Markets (NCBCM) Sporting Clays Open competition, which will be held at the Caymanas Golf and Country Club, starting 10 a.m.

The title sponsors have donated $250,000 towards this year's competition.

Vernon James, vice-president, sales and client services at NCBCM, said he was expecting a full day of excitement.

"We anticipated about 75 people in total for the tournament, so this is way beyond our expectations," said James.

Among the marksmen competing at the event are Khaleel Azan, Joey Chin, Brett Thwaites, Joey Chin and Jeffery Ziadie. The shooters will compete in eight categories, with the top three in each section being awarded trophies. Entry fee for the tournament is $3,500, inclusive of lunch.

The participants will have more than 14 stations from where the clays will be released at various heights - simulating the flight of birds; and they will also be equipped with golf carts to traverse the course.

In addition to the day's activities, the sponsors will be providing a bounce-about for the children and a mini-spa for adults. There will also be a media competition, with the winner receiving a special prize from the sponsors.
