Dibbs, Foster the champions
Joseph Dibbs and reigning national female champion Yvonne Foster captured the men's and women's open singles titles respectively, in the Spring Open Table Tennis Tournament which was staged by the Jamaica Table Tennis Association last weekend at the University of Technology.
Dibbs outclassed another former national champion, Christopher Marsh, 11-2, 12-10, 3-11, 11-7, 5-11, 11-6 (4-2), in the final while Foster overpowered Shenique Clare 14-12, 11-6, 11-5, 11-4 (4-0) in the women's final.
To reach the men's final, Dibbs crushed Emani McPherson 4-0 and Marsh clipped Kane Watson 4-3. Foster edged Kristen McKenzie 4-3 in one women's semi-final and Clare got by Andrea Wadsworth 4-2 in the other.
In other results, Don-Walker Petinaud won the men's B title, by beating Maurice Salkey 11-5, 11-5, 11-9, 11-8 (4-0). Mark Phillips took the men's C category, when he stopped Hopeton Todd 11-7, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6 (3-1). Alphanso Morris crushed Samuel Lamount 11-7, 11-9, 11-2 (3-0), to capture the veteran over-40 section. Carla Clarke whipped Kemesha Francis 11-6, 11-5, 11-5 (3-0), to win the women's B category.
In the junior Divisions, Kareem Flowers outplayed Jermaine James, 7-11, 12-10, 11-5, 11-7, 11-5 (4-1), to win the Under-18 title. While Ashli Alexander pipped Kristen McKenzie 4-3 to win the female equivalent. In the Under-15 categories, Nicholas Mahfood overwhelmed Jordan Hazle 11-3, 11-6, 11-3 (3-0), to win the male title, while Ashli Alexander eased past Kerry-Ann Whyte 11-5, 11-6, 11-4 (3-0) to take home the girl's crown. Simon Ho-On and Matthew-Ann Dawson won the boys' and girl's Under-13 titles respectively.
