One-day ban for Nelson

Title-chasing jockey Dane Nelson has been stood down for one raceday for careless riding aboard the runner-up PATARA in the third race at Caymanas Park on Easter Monday.

Nelson, who won the $3.6 million 1000 Guineas co-feature aboard the filly AL FOUZIA later in the afternoon, was penalised for causing interference to both SKY FORCE and EARLY DREAMS approaching the 500-metre point of the course. His suspension will take effect next Wednesday, April 14.

Also suspended was top-10 jockey Richard Mitchell, who has been unable to keep out of trouble with the stewards this season because of careless riding.

Mitchell, who rode the 4-5 favourite RUNE in the second race last Saturday, was slapped with a three-day suspension, this for causing interference to MEDSTAR in the last 300 metres of the straight-five race won by MISS PAM & ME.

Running in mid-track for most of the way, RUNE ran down sharply off a true line to the far rails under the right hand stick leaving the furlong pole, losing narrowly to MISS PAM AND ME.

Mitchell's suspension takes effect next Saturday, April 17. This marks his second three-day suspension this season, the first for a similar riding offence in late January. Apprentice Ansley Dancel, who rode the runner-up MR WICKER in the eighth race on Saturday, March 27, was severely cautioned for the drifting of his mount in the final 200 metres.
