That Billy Hall broadside

Published:Thursday | April 22, 2010 | 4:00 AM

The Editor, Sir:

The Reverend Billy Hall has questioned my "intellectual integrity", chastised me for "perfuming" the Rastafari, and even declared me a heretic in a piece in The Sunday Gleaner of April 18.

All because in a chapter I wrote for a collection edited by Professor Werner Zips, I described a Rastaman's exposition of how they acquired knowledge through ritual reasoning and smoking of the sacred herb, ganja, as brilliant, and because I did not say that I did not agree with him.

Sir, Mr Hall's broadside reminds me of the simple truth that being able to read, even big words, does not automatically mean that you can comprehend.

I am, etc.,
