Defending champions, Lennon High and Excelsior will contest this year's final of the Inter-Secondary Schools Sports Association/Locker Room Sports schoolgirls football competition, following contrasting semi-final victories over St Jago and Trench Town, respectively, at the Spanish Town Prison Oval yesterday.
In the opening semi-final, Excelsior recorded an exciting 3-2 victory over Trench Town. Shantel Spence (19th minute), Davia Morrison (26th) and Shaquilla Pitterson (71st) were the goalscorers for Excelsior, while Sherika Williams (24th) and Romish Sullivan (49th) netted goals for Trench Town.
In the feature match Lennon, who are seeking their third consecutive hold on the trophy, thrashed St Jago 4-0. Camille Hill scored a double for the champions in the 18th and 47th minutes. Roshana Palashe (36th) and Ramona Hyde (73rd) were the other scorers.
"I think that we didn't play our best game today, but we still managed to get the job done because we won 4-nil," said Merron Gordon, coach of Lennon. "We just have go back and work on the mistakes that we made in this game for the final because we know it is going to be a very tough game against Excelsior."
"My team performed way below expectations and I think that those early goals knocked the wind out of them," said Robert Lewis, coach of St Jago. "We tried our best in the second half, but I think that the Lennon team was too strong for us."
The final be played next week Tuesday at the same venue.
