St Georges FC on Wednesday ended the title hopes of defending Digicel Premier League champions Tivoli Gardens with a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at Lynch Park in Portland.

The win ensured that Harbour View were crowned 2009/2010 DPL champions after they took an unassailable seven-point lead in the competition.

Assistant coach Raymond 'Munzy' Gordon, assuming control of St Georges team in the absence of coach Braxton Hyre, said St Georges were satisfied with the victory.

"Our aim at this time is to assume third place in the league," said Gordon. "The way we played tonight is an indication that we are a quality team, and I believe the guys really wanted this victory for coach Hyre, who was unable to make it to the game due to other commitments. We fell behind early in the first half but we fought our way back. With this kind of fighting spirit, Georges can beat any team in the league."

It was Tivoli who went ahead in the 26th minute, after Christopher Jackson was brought down by goalkeeper Ralston Robinson and referee Kevin Morrison pointed to the spot.

Keammar Daley stepped up and a fired a powerful right footer to the right of the diving Robinson.

Tivoli almost went 2-0 up three minutes later, but Jackson's powerful shot from about 30 yards out was brilliantly saved by Robinson, who was having an outstanding game.

Georges pulled level in the 32nd minute, also from the penalty spot, when the skilful Leon Irving got by two defenders and was brought down in the area. Dwayne Holmes made no mistake from the spot as he fired a powerful right footer into the roof of the net, giving Edsel Scott no chance.

The second half saw both teams getting scoring opportunities, but both goalkeepers were outstanding.

The winner came in the 57th minute. Richardo Watson ran by two defenders and past the advancing Scott to slot home.

Despite three quick substitutions from coach Lenworth Hyde Sr, bringing on Roland Dean to replace Jermaine Taylor in the 58th minute, Irvino English for Jermaine Rickett in the 65th minute and Errol Stevens to replace Kemar Flemmings in the 66th, Georges held on to the advantage.

Hyde commended Georges on the hard-fought victory.

"They played well, and it was clear that they wanted this win," said Hyde. "The guys gave it their all but it was not their day today. We are still second in the league, which is not a bad position.

"Congratulations to the Harbour View team. They played well all season, and I believe they deserve all the accolades."
