Hottest topics on the cocktail circuit

Honourable thing

1. Some are now saying the reasonfor declining to accept the title is self-evident!

Funds, funds!

2. With his colleagues growing tired of the manner in which he represents the organisation and the funds it disperses as if it were his own, one of his colleagues supplied the quote of the week: "There is no 'I' in EU!"

Bail-out time

3. When it was first proposed last year, the board vetoed it. The minister, not satisfied, is still pushing for approval for the acquisition of the tired old building for a hefty price tag to bail out his friend.

No stopping him

4. The question for a few in some quarters is: "If he should decide to run in the constituency, who or what could prevent him from so doing so?"

Shame, shame!

5. Some are saying the real crime to be investigated is the statutory rape of a minor, and the lesson to be learnt is that older men should stop preying on underage girls.

Washing hands

6. It's the way to absolve oneself of any conflict of interest that may arise. It's now called doing a Pontius Pilate - simply wash your hands and establish your innocence!

No way!

7. Upset with the press coverage one of his colleagues has been receiving, one envoy has been busy bad-mouthing his colleague, to the point of even absenting himself from official functions where the colleague is host or the guest of honour!

What was that?

8. The happy moment was not so happy after all, as friends of the visibly pregnant bride were not amused by remarks of the mother-in-law, and are saying unless an apology is offered she should not be allowed to enter the matrimonial residence. And that's just the half of it!
