It's been 10 years since he began his musical journey and singer Anthony Cruz is looking forward to delivering his best showing to date.

His latest single, Only The Father, a heartfelt plea based on personal experiences, has become a favourite on local radio. The song is also garnering strong rotation on Caribbean radio stations in the USA. The track was produced by Lloyd 'John John' James Jr and is featured on the Coming in from the Cold rhythm.

It's been about two years since he topped the charts locally, but Cruz consistently maintains a good showing on the charts outside of Jamaica.

"Good songs will always prevail no matter what, and in times like these people want to hear an alternative. They want to hear something positive and Only The Father is basically saying that in times of need and despair, the only person that you can turn to is the Father," Cruz said in a recent interview.

recording debut

The singer, whose real name is Rowan Smith, is the nephew of the late singer Garnett Silk.He made his recording debut in 2000 with a cover of Santana and Product G&B's Maria Maria. Since then he hasn't looked back.

"I try to maintain a presence and some form of relevance because my voice is being heard and I have to bring something different to the game. Over the years, I have released songs that have found favour with persons from various sectors of the society.I'm bringing clean, conscious reggae music that can inspire, educate and uplift the people," Cruz stated.

Cruz's list of hits include Turn it Up on the Jammy's label, a cover of Usher's U Got it Bad, which went to the top of the Choice FM reggae chart in the UK, Place Too Bloody featuring Buju Banton, No Gun a Dance for the Stone Love label, Mama Blessing for the Fifth Element label and Half-Way Tree for the Footsteps label.

To date, Cruz has released three albums, Where There's Love on the Heavy Beat label, Mama's Blessing for the now-defunct Jet Star label and Fight With All Your Might for Penthouse/VP Records. His fourth album, Cruz Control, is due later this year on the Tads International label.

The music video for Only The Father, which was directed by Smooth, was released last week.
