THE GOVERNMENT has insisted that it will not allow the outbreak of lawlessness in the Corporate Area to stall its legislative agenda.
Leader of government business in the House of Representatives, Andrew Holness, told The Gleaner last night that the Opposition People's National Party has been informed about the staging of Parliament today.
According to Holness, when the House was adjourned last week, the date for the next sitting was announced as today. He said that no communication has been sent out to indicate that this has changed.
"Parliament is the highest decision court in the land and we do not intend to have our business delayed by the threat of thugs," Holness said.
He told The Gleaner that Prime Minister Bruce Golding will be making a statement to the House today but declined to say what area the PM would concentrate on.
Last night, PNP Chairman Robert Pickersgill said it was too early to say whether members of his party would be turning up to Gordon House to answer the call of the legislature. He said he was making calls to canvass the MPs on their intentions.
