More help coming for St Ann's Bay Hospital

JHTA chapter pledges more help

Carl Gilchrist, Gleaner Writer

THE ST Ann's Bay Hospital received a facelift on Labour Day, as the Jamaica Hotel and Tourist Association's (JHTA) Ocho Rios/Runaway Bay Chapter extended a helping hand for the fourth consecutive year.

Chairperson of the chapter, Vana Taylor, said her organisation was looking to assist the institution on a more regular basis, instead of once per year.

"We want to make it our media outreach, instead of just assisting on Labour Day," Taylor told The Gleaner.

"It's for all of us, so we want to make it an ongoing project. We will probably look at it every quarter."

Taylor said the JHTA would be looking overseas for partners to help provide the hospital with needed equipment.

More than 50 persons turned out at the hospital to give several areas of the institution a paint job. The accident and emergency, outpatient, physiotherapy and X-ray departments and several guard rails were painted.

Several members of the JHTA, including Sunset Jamaica Grande Resort; Dr R.P.G. Crooks and his emergency medical services team; Dr Sidney McGill and young men from his mentorship programme CSALT (Coalition in Support of Adolescent Leadership Training) and others participated in the painting.

Paint was donated by hotels and hardware stores.
