Dudus D-Day

Published: Friday | June 4, 2010 Comments 0

Chief Justice Zaila McCalla is expected to make a ruling today in the application brought by ousted west Kingston strongman Christopher 'Dudus' Coke, who is seeking leave to go to the Judicial Review Court to quash extradition proceedings against him.

Coke is also seeking a stay of the warrant of arrest which was issued last month.

Lawyers representing the minister of justice and the director of public prosecutions, who are the respondents, have asked the chief justice not to grant Coke's application. The lawyers, in their legal submissions, have asked for the extradition proceedings to take their course.

Coke's lawyers will respond to the submissions when the hearing resumes today in chambers at the Supreme Court.

Coke, 41, is wanted by the United States government to face charges of conspiracy to distribute cocaine and marijuana and illegal trafficking in firearms.
