THE DEVASTATING upsurge of crime in west Kingston during the recent joint police-military operation has caused overwhelming stress among residents, crippled business interests operating in the corporate area, and placed tremendous strain on the security forces and essential services ope-rating in the parishes of Kingston and St Andrew.

However, despite the unrest and the deadly conditions it created, law-enforcement officials and medical personnel valiantly executed their duties, oftentimes risking their own lives in order to protect and serve our nation.

Through their courageous efforts, normality is slowly returning to the affected neighbourhoods, in spite of the ongoing state of emergency.

In recognition of their hard work and dedication, Churches Co-operative Credit Union (CCCU ) is offering a one-month moratorium on loan-payments to its members who are employed with the Jamaica Constabulary Force, the Jamaica Defence Force, the Jamaica Fire Brigade, the South East Regional Health Authority, the Ministry of National Security, and the Department of Correctional Services. The loan-payment deferral is being offered between June and December 2010, and the member is offered the opportunity to choose which month is suitable for him to receive this moratorium.

"We want to commend the efforts of the security forces and medical practitioners who tirelessly worked during the recent spate of violence in downtown Kingston and its surrounding environs," said Janyce Robinson, general manager - credit administration and loan risk at CCCU.

"We acknowledge and deeply appreciate the tremendous sacrifice they made and the countless hours they contributed to safeguarding our country's well-being," she concluded.
