World Junior 100m champion, Dexter Lee, and Sedaith Palmer captured the boys' and girls' Under-20 100m events, respectively, on yesterday's opening day of the two-day National Junior Track and Field Championships at the G.C. Foster College in St Catherine.
Lee, who opted to run professionally last year and is now currently based in Atlanta, United States, won the boys' sprint in a swift 10.20 seconds ahead of Old Harbour's Kemar Bailey-Cole (10.61) and Brando Brady of Camperdown (10.61).
Palmer of Herbert Morrison captured the girls' equivalent in 11.79.
Odane Skeen of Wolmer's took the boys' Under-17 100m in 10.80, finishing ahead of Odail Todd of Green Island (10.95) and Deshawn Jackson of Jamaica College (11.16).
Kedisha Dallas of Holmwood won the girls' equivalent in 12.26, while Edwin Allen's Saqukina Cameron (12.31) and Chanice Bonner (12.45) of The Queen's School finished second and third, respectively.
Tracey victorious in girls' Under-20
Edwin Allen's Ristananna Tracey won the girls' Under-20 400m hurdles in 58.18, beating Danielle Dowie of Wolmer's (59.88) into second, while Dwayne Extol of Wolmer's took home the boys' equivalent in 52.92. Javaughn Gallimore of JC was second in 53.94.
Natoya Goule of Manchester clocked 2:09.51 to win the girls' Under-20 800m ahead of Petrina Plummer of Holmwood 2:13.04, while Kevin White of Holmwood won the boys' equivalent in 1:54.62.
Bellefield's Kemoy Campbell captured the boys' Under-20 5000m in 14:31.38.
In field events, Janieve Russell of Holmwood won the girls' Under-20 long jump with a leap 6.20m; Calabar's Chad Wright took home the boys' Under-20 discus with a throw of 61.07 to beat his schoolmate, Travis Smikle, 56.21.
The athletes are seeking selection on two teams as the junior Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games will be held in Santo Domingo between July 2 and 4, while the World Junior Championships will be held in Moncton, Canada, between July 19 and 25.
For the CAC Championships, there will be two age categories, Under-17 and Under-19, while Under-19 is the age limit for the World Juniors.
