Anthony and Malene Mullings.

Anthony and Malene met on May 24, 2008 when they were introduced for a movie date by a mutual friend. They socialised while playing Anthony's favourite game, pool, and later went out for drinks. Though neither had any expectations, by the end of the night a seed had been planted in their hearts and they both knew that this was just the beginning of something very special.

For Anthony, 2008 was a bittersweet year as his father, whom he had just met, died the month before he met Malene. He was not necessarily expecting a relationship but the day after meeting Malene he fell in love with her and realised that she was someone he would need and want to have in his life. He was struck by her humility, love for the Lord, intelligence, adventurous spirit and willingness to go the extra mile for a friend.

God's direct word

For Malene, meeting Anthony was the fulfillment of God's direct word to her only two months prior to them being introduced. While being comforted through a challenging period, the Lord told Malene clearly in church one day that "the man for her was around the corner". Through faith, Malene held to God's word and sought confirmation from Him once she had met Anthony. Plus, most of the characteristics that she desired in a man were found in Anthony. That was evident at their first meeting when he demonstrated the characteristics of a man of God, integrity, love for his family, a protector and genuineness. He impressed her by taking the time to get to know her and connect spiritually, emotionally and mentally.

In the early stages, they built their communication via numerous and lengthy telephone conversations while Malene worked outside of Jamaica.

In less than a year, Anthony secretly approached Malene's parents and sought her hand in marriage. He proposed on Saturday, February 7, 2009 and to his delight she said yes!

The wedding ceremony, officiated by Reverend Dave Spence and Reverend Dr Collin Cowan, was held on Saturday, May 29 at Hope United Church. The reception took place in the Gold Room, Mona Visitors' Lodge under the supervision of wedding planner/decorator: Events by KOSH and Karla Stephens-Hall. The newly-weds honeymooned at Couples Negril.
