'The Anchor' names a winner

Published: Friday | July 2, 2010 Comments 0

It started with more than 250 applicants and after 12 weeks, it is down to only two contestants in 'The Anchor'.

On Monday night, one person will walk away with $500,000 plus a contract with CVM-TV.

The producers subjected the finalists to all aspects of being an anchor. Starting with the teleprompter, they have graduated to doing field reports and interviews. Along the way, each week, the viewers decided who should go to the "doghouse" and who should stay.

The two left standing come from different ends of the spectrum. Bertina McCauley has long established a public persona as one of the lead actresses on The Blackburns of Royal Palm Estate. She faces off against a young university student - Tamara McKayle who has just enrolled in Carimac.

Unlike Bertina, Tamara is having her first exposure to the microphone and has plans for a future in broadcasting.

The big climax this Monday night comes when Jamaica votes on who will be the next big anchor.

Be sure to catch the exciting end to the long journey of becoming the next anchor on CVM TV at 9 p.m. with a repeat broadcast on Tuesday.
