Two tipsters hit jackpot

Published: Friday | July 9, 2010 Comments 0

Cliff Williams, representing HITZ-92, and Track & Pools' Kirk Kong have topped the bimonthly standings in the CTL/Markham and Champion tipsters' competition, which has gone past the halfway stage.

Williams won with 52 winners - two clear of closest rival The News (Errol Dunn), with Kong in third on 47 wins.

Williams led comfortably in the last month (June) and although coming back to the field over the last two race meets, held on by two wins from Dunn to secure the $20,000 cash incentive offered by the sponsors.

Kong, meanwhile, won $40,000 for having topped the wagering section of the competition with a plus $485.25. His prize money was doubled, owing to a $20,000 carryover from the previous bimonthly period (March/April), which nobody was able to win.

Sensible tipping

Coming from an imposing plus $1,800 in May, Kong watched as his profit dwindled. But sensible tipping in the closing weeks enabled him to win, ahead of Compu-form, plus $372.50, and Williams with a plus $126.20.

No other tipster was able to achieve a plus quantity during the two-month period.

Meanwhile, defending champion Oral Anderson (TVJ) recently assumed the lead from former champion Ultraquest (Donovan 'The Clockman' Cunningham) in the overall wins category.

Anderson is on top with a total of 168 wins, followed by Cunningham on 165 with Irie-FM (Howard Abrahams) holding down third with 157. No tipster has achieved an overall plus quantity.

The 16 media tipsters are vying for lucrative prize money at the end of the year. Tips appear in The Gleaner on the morning of each raceday.
