Sprint hurdler Danielle Williams of Jamaica missed a medal by a whisker at the 13th World Junior Championships in Moncton, Canada, last night.
Williams clocked a personal best 13.46 seconds for fourth in the final, the same time returned by bronze medal winner Miriam Helh of Germany. The event was won in 13.30 by Isabellle Pedersen of Norway.
In the girls' 400 metres final, Jody Ann Muir was fifth in 53.42 seconds behind gold medal winner Shaunae Miller of The Bahamas, who pocketed gold in 52.52.
Another Caribbean athlete, Kirani James of Grenada, won the boys' 400m gold in 45.89.
History-making junior, Dexter Lee, missed a chance to go for the sprint double as he was disqualified for false starting in the heats of the 200 metres.
Disqualified
Lee was one of three athletes from heat four who were disqualified for the same offence.
The Jamaican was hoping to follow in the footsteps of Trinidad and Tobago's Ato Boldon and United Kingdon's Christian Malcolm, who won both races in 1992 and 1998, respectively.
"I think I was a little bit tired from the long delay last night (Wednesday night). I was taking a long time at the anti-doping. I will just focus on the 4x100m relay," Lee told the IAAF website.
In action for Jamaica today will be Kamal Fuller and Stefan Fennell in the 110m hurdles, Chad Wright and Traves Smikle in the discus and the sprint relays for boys and girls.
