The Editor, Sir:
I read in Thursday's Gleaner, with more than a little concern, that a team of police investigators is now trying to locate the person who videotaped last week's shooting of a man by lawmen in Buckfield, St Ann, as well as the cellular phone he used to capture the controversial images.
One must wonder what the police intend to do with the videographer when they find him. Will he be kissed on both cheeks ... and awarded a medal? Or will both his lower and nether cheeks get busted with a baton for causing the police grave international embarrassment?
Surely, the police should be focusing their attention on the perpetrator of the crime, or alleged crime in question. Surely, they already have all the information that they need to properly prosecute this matter. Why do they need the guy's cellphone? What will they do with it? Perhaps the police need to explain their motives in this matter very clearly!
Meanwhile, the video man may be well advised to disguise himself and go shopping for several pairs of steel briefs. They offer far better protection in the event that one is battered on the bottom with a baton.
I am, etc.,
