 Robert and Maria Roper were united in marriage on Emancipation Day, August 1, at the Mandeville Seventh-day Adventist Church in Manchester. Their wedding reception took place at Golf View Hotel in the town.

Officiating ministers were Pastors Derek Bignall, Eric Nathan, Everett Brown and Ronnie Henry. They later cut a wedding cake made by Mavis Jacobs.

The newly-weds first met at Kingston Public Hospital, when the groom was a medical intern and the bride was a student nurse. He is now a doctor and she is now a nurse.

Dr Roper proposed in, of all places, Aunt Joyce Reid's kitchen in Portland and the couple shared their first kiss in the vicinity of the Cement Factory in St Andrew! They became engaged on May 16 last year. The Ropers honeymooned at Secrets Wild Orchid in Montego Bay.
