Bajan songwriter and international pop star Shontelle Layne, better known as Shontelle, can't wait to be in Jamaica for tomorrow's Pulse Caribbean Model Search finals.

Since her meteoric rise to stardom, Rihanna's friend and former back-up singer Shontelle has only performed in the Caribbean once, and that was in Trinidad.

Speaking to ZIP FM earlier this week, the singer of T-shirt and Billboard's hot 100 top 10 hit single Impossible said Jamaica was the creative and cultural capital of the Caribbean and mentioned some of the collaborations she had done with local stars such as Beenie Man. However, she has never been here and is looking forward to performing for a Jamaican audience. Shontelle also said nobody should expect just a cameo performance from her. Shontelle, as the headliner on the night, will also be debuting the live perfor-mance of her new smash single Perfect Nightmare.

A stunning beauty, Shontelle's first music venture was when she appeared in the music video for the reworked Roll It, performed by J-Status, featuring her and Rihanna, in 2006. Shontelle then signed to Street Records/Universal Motown, where she released her debut album Shontellegence. The album spawned the singles T-Shirt, Stuck With Each Other, featuring Akon and Battle Cry. She also won the Barbados Music Award (BMA) for Song of the Year (2009) for T-Shirt. Her sophomore album No Gravity is now out and has spawned the hits Impossible, The Perfect Nightmare and Licky (Under the Covers).

A talented songwriter, Shontelle wrote the song Roll It Gal for regionally renowned Alison Hinds. The pop star will be in the company of a number of local and international celebrities, including Jamaica's history-making first runner-up to Miss Universe, Yendi Phillipps. Phillipps will make her first runway appearance in Jamaica since the historic feat in Las Vegas.

Also appearing on Sunday's show will be the up-and-coming award-winning Jamaican singer Angele Smith, singing a trio of songs, including his latest single.

More than 100 finalists will compete during the event for titles in four categories: Fashion Model, Male Face, Full Figure and Petite Fashion Model.

The 2010 renewal of the Caribbean Model Search is presented in partnership with Supreme Ventures Sports Betting, Just Bet, Nestlé Fitness Cereal, Eye Q Optical, The Wyndham, CVM TV, Hype TV, Zip FM, Kool FM, Studio 38, Samurai Investments Ltd and The Gleaner.
