The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA) is awaiting results from tests carried out on water and fish samples found in the Kingston Harbour.
NEPA, along with the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emer-gency Management and the Marine Police, is investigating the discovery of hundreds of dead fish which were found floating in the harbour on Saturday.
While the cause remains unknown, Sergeant Neville Powell of the Marine Police speculated that a still-unknown substance sparked the fish kill.
"There is no concrete evidence," he said. "I was told that a lot of dead fish were found in the Shell Pier region."
Powell also said he was told by an investigating officer that the water looked discoloured.
According to Natalie Fearon, NEPA's public education and corporate communications ma-nager, the agency is still awaiting the test results.
"We're testing to see if we can identify what could have possibly killed the fish," she said, noting that fish of varying sizes were found.
Persons cautioned
NEPA reported that the fish kill was discovered near the Harbour View roundabout and Caribbean Cement Company Ltd.
The environmental agency continues to caution persons against removing and eating fish from the shore as this could be harmful.
