THE EDITOR, Sir:
I WAS appalled at the attack upon the prime minister by the chairman of the Police Federation. Even more surprising was the muted response from members of both political parties. I was encouraged by the letter from a sociologist, but do not think it went far enough.
Whenever a nation allows it's military or police to express such open disdain for the civilian-elected government, we all are are going down that slippery slope towards anarchy. The handling of the Christopher 'Dudus' Coke affair was inept at best, but it does not warrant disrespect from the very forces that are supposed to work to engender respect for our institutions of government.
It's not about the People's National Party or the Jamaica Labour Party. It is about the protection of the separation of power within a democratic society.
I am, etc.,
