The Jamaican Equestrian Federation is hosting a Federation Equestrian International (FEI) World Jumping Challenge that will start today and run through until Sunday at the Kingston Polo Club.
Competition will take place in two categories - Adults Category C (15 years and older), which will be held today and tomorrow; and Children's Category C (14 years and younger) that will be held on Saturday and Sunday.
Local riders will be competing against riders from 50 other countries, who will be riding identical courses and facing identical technical challenges. All courses will be set at one-metre high and have to be assessed by Jamaican judges who are FEI qualified. The judges for this show will be Trina DeLisser of Montego Bay and Anthony Pasmore of Ocho Rios.
Format
The format of the competition will allow talented Jamaican riders to score points and establish a world ranking without ever having to leave the island.
There will be five riders in the adult category and five in the children's category, who will be competing for two of the four Jamaican riding clubs - Kingston Polo Club, which is coached by Sue Wates; and Ponderosa, coached by Betty Wates. Both coaches hail from Bog Walk.
Jamaica has been participating in the FEI Jumping and Dressage competitions for over 20 years.
Spectators will be welcome at the Kingston Polo Club this weekend to cheer on the Jamaican riders, as they compete on the international stage.
There is no charge for entry.
