Levy

Robert Levy, chairman of the Jamaica Broilers Group of Companies, will this year become the latest inductee into the Private Sector Organisation of Jamaica's (PSOJ) Private Sector Hall of Fame.

A release from the PSOJ stated that the hall-of-fame honour is bestowed annually on an individual who, among other things, made innovative and sustained contributions to the development of the private sector for at least 25 years, is of unquestioned integrity and maintains high ethical standards in his business practices.

"A man of steadfast faith who credits God's guidance for his personal and professional success, Robert Levy is widely regarded as one of Jamaica's most remarkable entrepreneurs," the PSOJ said.

Levy joined Jamaica Broilers in 1959, one year after the official formation of the company. During his first year of employment, he fast-tracked his knowledge of the company's operations by working in several different areas. By 1978, he had assumed the critical post of director of development - putting him in charge of directing the company towards becoming an impressive, vertically integrated entity known as the Jamaica Broilers Group of Companies.

Diversification

"By the time Robert Levy relinquished the post of president and CEO in February 2009 and assumed the position of chairman of the group's board of directors, the group reflected the diversification that had taken place over time... ," the PSOJ said.

Levy is a member of several agricultural and other national development-related boards, including the National Foundation for the Development of Science and Technology and the Sugar Company of Jamaica.

Among his several honours, in October 2002, he was awarded membership in the Order of Distinction in the rank of Commander for his contribution to the development of the livestock industry in Jamaica.

His latest honour will be conferred on December 7 when he will join 17 other outstanding Jamaican private-sector leaders whose contribution to the private sector and to Jamaica have been acknowledged via their induction into the PSOJ Hall of Fame.
