Aston Cooke's award winning comedy Single Entry is in rehearsal for a gala opening on October 15 at the Pantry Playhouse in New Kingston.

The outrageously hilarious Jamaican play tackles the sensitive issues of multiple passports, false identifications, bogus visas and fake green cards.

Single Entry chronicles the lives of two unemployed Jamaican women, Cherry and Sonia, their ingenious strategies to acquire visas to travel to the United States of America (US) in search of a better life, and the underground experiences they face as illegal aliens when they run off. After making several attempts at the US Embassy in Kingston, the main characters, Cherry played by Sharee McDonald Russell and Sonia played by Nyanda Cammock finally get single-entry visas.

The top-flight cast for this production of Single Entry includes seasoned performers Cammock, McDonald Russell and Dennis Titus.

Recent apperances

Cammock recently appeared in Karl Hart's Backstage while McDonald Russell was last seen in Patrick Brown's Easy Street. Titus returns to the Jamaican stage after over 10 years working on the Canadian and British theatre and television circuit. These seasoned actors will be supported by newcomers Akeem Mignott and Jovan McPherson.

Single Entry is filled with side-splitting laughter and warm nostalgia.

It provides a slice of Jamaican life that is spirited and tangy. The comedy demonstrates Cooke's usual intelligent writing style; sharp and witty with layers of social relevance, satirical and poignant yet entertaining to the bone.

The production is directed by the multi-talented award-winning choreographer and director Michael Holgate.

Following the gala performance Single Entry will play Wednesdays through Saturdays at 8:30 p.m. with matinee performances on Sundays at 6 p.m. Patrons are advised to make reservation for tickets by calling 960-9845, or pick up tickets at the theatre located at 2 Dumfries Road in New Kingston.
