Venus looks to injury-free season
HONG KONG (AP):
Venus Williams says she is looking forward to a healthy season for herself and sister Serena, after an injury-plagued year for the siblings.
Serena missed the rest of the year after winning Wimbledon in July because of a cut on her right foot. She is still recovering and will miss the Australian Open, which starts on January 17.
After Wimbledon, Venus only played at the US Open because of a bothersome left knee.
Venus will compete this week in an exhibition tournament in Hong Kong. She said yesterday that the sisters will "reunite as a doubles team pretty soon".
She added that her younger sister is in "very good spirits".
The Williams sisters have won a combined 20 Grand Slam singles titles.
