THE EDITOR, Sir:
How ironic it is that the same people who campaigned on the principle of accountability are the very same ones who are taking to task the independent Office of the Contractor General (OCG). It seems to me that whenever the contractor general mentions anything to do with a probe into actions his office deems worthwhile to investigate, the JLP lead administration goes on the attack.
The OCG was established by the previous government, and I am sure the then Opposition salivated at every word that was said by him about any perceived wrongdoings. Now, when the shoe is on the other foot, they cry like little schoolgirls.
It is time for this Government to stop taking the institutions of good governance for granted and get on with the job of governing the country, although it is performing terribly at that task.
Instead of interfering in the work of the OCG, I think the Government should set up a body to investigate the killing of the 73 people in Tivoli Gardens.
I am, etc.,
