We note that three senior technocrats of British engineering company Mabey & Johnson have been sent to jail for taking kickbacks from Saddam Hussein's regime, thus breaking United Nations sanctions against Iraq when they existed.
Mabey & Johnson is the same company from which Mr Joseph Hibbert, the member of parliament, was accused of taking bribes when he was a technocrat in Jamaica's works ministry.
The contractor general, who probed the claim, held that Mr Hibbert lied during his investigations and proposed that criminal charges be brought against the MP.
It is both in Mr Hibbert's and the country's interest for the legal authorities to decide either way.
