Carlene delivers hope on 'Threshing Floor'
Krista Henry, Staff Reporter
Not many may know singer Carlene Davis has survived a whirlwind of dreadful experiences - experiences that might have shattered the spirits of many. Still, the singer who is more often than not seen smiling, continues to lift her voice in praise every chance she gets.
Carlene's newest single, Threshing Floor, which is also the second video release from her latest project/CD, True Worship, serves not only as her testimony, but also as a musical conduit through which she can inspire others. She explained to The Sunday Gleaner, "Threshing Floor is that place of surrender, transformation and restoration. A place where you finally humble yourself and give God total control. This threshing floor takes you from a place of fear to faith, a place of pain to our full potential and purpose in God."
There is also a more personal story behind Threshing Floor. Carlene and her husband, Tommy Cowan, head of Glory Music, were diagnosed with cancer many years ago - a situation which is highlighted in the new video, where the main character is diagnosed with the illness.
The video was directed by Nathan Cowan of Caribbean Films and is scheduled for release in a few days. Carlene said, "This track was written by my husband, Tommy. In the past, I was diagnosed with cancer and he had a colon disorder and the Lord delivered us out of those experiences and so much more. Having gone through this, we have come to know without a doubt that the God we serve is a God of love, who is full of mercy and He wants all of us to have this intimate relationship with Him."
Change your situation
By extension, Carlene wants others to know they can have this same hope and faith in God, and there's no denying her music conveys this. She said when people listen, "(I want them to know) that Jesus loves them, no matter what they have done or been through. He wants everyone of us to experience His love, because His love never fails. 'Man' will fail but He remains faithful and He's looking for that someone today who's reading this article to just believe that Jesus is able and call upon Him for He will be right there ready to heal and change your situation. I say this because when I go through those troubled times I now have faith to believe that He will come through for me."
Carlene who recently returned to the island from touring the United Kingdom, will appear at the celebrated Gleaner-sponsored gospel concert, 'Best Dressed Fun In The Son' on Saturday, March 19, at the University of the West Undies, Mona Bowl. She said, "I'm coming very expectant that God's gonna do something extraordinary. I will be bringing the truth of the gospel with singing, dancing, a fun-loving experience in Jesus. We'll present those songs of hope that Jamaica has come to know me by, also songs of worship from my latest project, True Worship, including this track, Threshing Floor. I guarantee there will be an outpouring of blessings."
Also booked to appear at the concert are international gospel artiste, Tye Tribbet, reggae/dancehall gospel artiste, Papa San, Judith Gayle, Prodigal Son, Kevin Downswell and others.
